I am a principal at Gupta Wessler in Washington, DC, where I represent plaintiffs and public-interest clients in Supreme Court, appellate, and constitutional litigation. Since joining the firm in 2012, I've argued multiple times in the U.S. Supreme Court and in nearly all federal circuits. In 2021, I was counsel of record in the U.S. Supreme Court in Lombardo v. St. Louis, in which I successfully obtained an opinion summarily vacating a pro-officer decision in a police excessive-force case.Recently, I've argued the following cases:> a U.S. Supreme Court case about federal preemption of state consumer-protection laws;> a U.S. Supreme Court case involving a novel First Amendment question;> a Ninth Circuit appeal defending a $102 class-action judgment against Walmart for violations of California labor law;> a D.C. Circuit appeal for a certified class of tax-return preparers challenging the legality of over $250 million in IRS-imposed fees;> Seventh, Ninth, and Third Circuit appeals resulting in landmark decisions expanding the availability of paid military leave; > a Fifth Circuit appeal raising an important personal-jurisdiction question;> a summary-judgment hearing for a nationwide class of PACER users challenging the judiciary's fee structure for accessing court filings;> a First Circuit appeal successfully defending Boston and Brookline's public-carry restrictions against a Second Amendment challenge; > an Eighth Circuit appeal upholding a punitive-damages award against a constitutional attack; > an Eighth Circuit appeal successfully reinstating a jury’s finding of negligence by GM in the design of a seat-belt system, and ordering a new trial on damages only; and> an Eighth Circuit appeal successfully defeating a claim of immunity in a constitutional challenge to a city’s “pay-to-play” systemMy work spans a wide range of topics, including the First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, Article III standing, due process, personal jurisdiction, class certification, preemption, civil rights, administrative law, arbitration, tort law, and numerous issues involving consumers’ and workers’ rights. I've represented classes of consumers and workers, tort victims, nonprofits, state and local governments, federal judges, members of Congress, military reservists, and the families of people killed by police violence. I've also testified before Congress.In 2014, I received the President's Award from the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges for my work helping to obtain a $56 million judgment for a nationwide class of federal bankruptcy judges.
