My team is responsible for the provisioning and ongoing operations of Heroku’s PostgreSQL, Redis, and Apache Kafka data product, which is built on top of Amazon Web Services. We maintain over 40,000 EC2 instances, a petabyte-scale archive of continual data backups, and hundreds of thousands of free-tier “hobby” databases. Our control plane is written in Ruby with some Go and runs thousands of Sidekiq workers.Below are some of the features I developed during my time at Heroku.

Trailhead, an online learning platform run by Salesforce, had made the decision to develop mobile apps. I was brought on in February 2020 to develop a unified API for iOS, Android, and Slack Bot teams to build their apps. After discussions with the team, we decided on GraphQL as the standard for our APIs. I was initially the primary developer on our GraphQL API. We launched the Android app during Dreamforce 2020 with an iOS update migrating us from a deprecated “one-off” API to GraphQL shortly afterward.Below are the apps I helped ship by providing them with GraphQL APIs.
