Jonathan is the Chief Sustainability Officer and a board member at inKind, an Austin-based fintech that finances and supports over 1,500 independent, medium, and large restaurant operators across the US and Australia. He heads up inKind’s philanthropy and sustainability programs. Their food waste reduction and diversion initiative, Scrap Energy, works to eliminate the 22-33 billion pounds of food waste that finds its way annually from restaurants into US landfills. While the Restaurant Toolkit program provides meaningful funding through an Impact Credit Fund as well as a growing list of services and products created and cultivated to support independent, minority operators. Leveraging inKind’s technology and a decade of industry expertise, the Toolkit works to level the playing field for racialized groups, women, veteran, and LGBTQ restaurant entrepreneurs. He also heads inKind’s Customer Service and Success. With over a million users, he oversees day-to-today operations as well as customer retention programs such as Concierge and Special Events.Prior to inKind, he founded SumRando, an anonymizing cybersecurity company headquartered in South Africa. SumRando served the privacy and security needs of over 7 million users in marginalized communities—LGBTQ, political activists, journalists, and women—throughout the Global South.He is an active angel investor, focused on seed-stage technology ventures, restaurants, and food-tech.
