Risk has been something I have been fascinated by from a young age. I have developed a keen sense of where there is potential risk and have developed a strong ability to mitigate risk. Having worked within the insurance industry for over a decade I understand the risks inherent within life and the very meaningful effects they have on both consumers and businesses. This understanding of the effects drives me to look for solutions that allow for impact to be reduced.My career started working in the personal and small business agency environment. By operating in that environment for 3 years I was able to develop a broader understanding of risk management through field underwriting. Beyond simply developing underwriting skills I also developed the ability to create solutions for customers that may not have been properly served by other agencies as a result of carriers not having evident solutions to problems. Subsequently I moved into performing licensure compliance and conflict of interest reporting. This helped me develop regulatory compliance skills and the ability to interpret regulation to more adequately serve the goals of the organization. I moved from that into small commercial writing focusing on excess and surplus lines. As part of this I had to place customers on the non-admitted insurance market or find a means of placing within the admitted market. I was able to successfully move a number of customers to not just the standard market but the preferred market. I transitioned to the property claims side of the bank after 3 years of doing this and focused on finding solutions for getting homes rebuilt after homes were damaged. I was able to overcome roadblocks for customers to continue progress with repairs in most cases. Finally I currently work doing FDPA flood compliance specializing in finding means of making operations more efficient while still abiding by the regulation.I approach problems from multiple angles and search out solutions that have the greatest upside potential for all parties. At its core risk management is not just about mitigating the risk for one party but for all parties and doing so in a way that has the least negative impact. It does not benefit anyone for solutions to be so onerous that no one wants to abide by them.I would like to be able to move into a role that determines risk management for a broader organization.
