From 2017–20, I oversaw Canadaland's written news content, examining intersections of the country's media, politics, and culture, with a particular focus on tracking the platforms of Canada’s far right. As the company's focus shifted to audio journalism, mine did, too — and these days, I report feature stories for our titular flagship show (CANADALAND), co-host our monthly Ontario politics podcast (Wag the Doug), and regularly fill in on our weekly media criticism series (Short Cuts), in addition to providing editorial support and research for a variety of programs across the network. From the fall of 2019 through the summer of 2024, I also wrote and edited Canadaland's weekly newsletter, which (for what it's worth) became genuinely beloved among our audience for its puns.(Since September 2024, I've been on leave on a Massey fellowship. More on that below.)

I wrote all kinds of things — from short, bloggy posts to several-thousand-word features — for Toronto's preeminent alt-weekly. Photos and videos and sometimes editing, too.

Two Post columnists and I argued about city politics every Monday as the "Posted Toronto Political Panel."

In addition to everything else listed here, my freelance tour of duty through the Toronto municipal mediasphere included covering City Hall for OpenFile (2011), reviewing theatre for Xtra (2012), talking politics on CP24 (2011-12), and serving as a recurring member of The Roundtable on Newstalk 1010 (2011-13).

I tracked the increasingly questionable whereabouts of Mayor Rob Ford by reverse-engineering his itinerary on a weekly basis.

I got media coverage for the more notable events and series that took place at Toronto's 700-seat cathedral to cult film.

For Spacing Magazine, I wrote features on public space issues and Toronto City Hall, and for its website, I investigated and reported on further associated wackiness.

I wrote press releases and tweeted and found ways to get the word out about the awesome stuff happening at Toronto's oldest and largest movie theatre.

Hijacked the editorial direction in favour of my public-space zealotry (as NOW Magazine put it).

I covered City Hall and other municipal issues, trying to break things that no one else was writing about.
