I DO SCIENCEI once recorded a high-speed movie of one of the most extreme temperature differences on Earth: we shot a cryogenic pellet at -452 F into a hot plasma at about 200 million degrees, which is hotter than the sun. That experiment was affectionately called “a snowball in hell,” and was featured on the History Channel’s show Modern Marvels in the “Super Hot” episode. Lately my focus has been the interface between plasmas and materials, studying material limits under high heat loads using lasers. For the past 10+ years I have been working on the development of fusion energy as a viable energy source using magnetically confined plasmas. I LOVE SOLVING PROBLEMSMy wife used to be a teacher, and I was shocked by the inefficiency of creating paper seating charts and keeping track of attendance. So I designed an iOS app called Smart Seat, which solves these problems and has been used by thousands of teachers around the world. I also love photography. I take a lot of photos on my iPhone, and sometimes I can’t find a particular photo among the thousands. So I created PixSort, which is an iOS app that organizes photos and makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. A BIT MOREI’ve traveled to every continent except Antarctica. I love surfing and have ridden waves in 12 countries, my favorites being Indonesia and South Africa (just ask any surfer why). I always enjoy hearing from interesting people and looking for good projects, so feel free to connect with me.
