About Jonathan Miller

As a storyteller, my first job as an exhibit designer taught me the art of guiding individuals through a real-world environment while crafting a compelling narrative that showcases a product. In addition, creating 3D Arch Viz presentations for a steel building company has honed my ability to time a sales pitch and unveil pertinent information, such as my 3D-renderings, at the optimal moment for maximum impact. Lastly, designing window displays has allowed me to master the art of storytelling in a confined space while using emotive elements to create a sense of a larger world beyond the display. At present, I devote my time to creating 3D assets and animations with Blender 3D. Continually refining my skills as a 3D artist is a top priority, and I make it a point to incorporate new technologies and acquire as much knowledge as possible. Drawing upon my extensive experience, I strive to infuse my work with a level of detail and quality that is readily apparent.I believe that my skills are best suited for the entertainment industry, specifically for publishing illustrations, creating 3D game props and assets, producing concept art, and crafting music videos. My goal is to transition from display and exhibit design to the entertainment industry by leveraging my 3D skill set. I am excited about the prospect of securing a position on an indie game development team, gaining experience in providing motion graphics for the music entertainment industry, or working in film development.

  • Bouldingblocks
    Freelance Industrial Designer
    Bouldingblocks Jun 2017 - Jul 2019
    Denver, Colorado, United States
"I had the privilege of participating in the design and development of a physical brain puzzle toy called 'Boulding Blocks' (http://www.bouldingblocks.com/). This was a classic industrial design consumer product project that involved creating a perfect cube measuring 3"x3"x3", made up of 4 black and 8 white pieces that fit together in a particular way. To accomplish this, I utilized 3D Studio Max and the ShapeWays website to create multiple 3D-printed models for design iteration and refinement. In addition, I designed the packaging and the 10' x 10' display for the product. This experience enabled me to develop a pipeline between various programs and websites, work with tight tolerances and plastics, and hone my skills in industrial design. Eventually, the Museum of Modern Art licensed the product for their gift store, and I was tasked with designing the support packaging for the instructions and information, as well as most of the imagery on the current website, www.bouldingblocks.com."
  • Maximum Impact
    Visual Merchandiser
    Maximum Impact Mar 2009 - Feb 2017
    New York, United States
Visual Merchandiser / Window Display Designer - Maximum Impact - March 2009 to February 2017. I worked as a window display designer and visual merchandiser for a brand company that dealt mainly with the liquor retail sector. I used the Adobe Creative Suite and 3D Studio Max to create concept ideas, large-format graphic design, and print file preparation, as well as 3D renderings and PDF stack presentations for sales. This work was a form of visual merchandising and required me to create 3D-CG renderings of window displays, activation areas, case stacks, pole toppers, floor graphics, hanging mobiles, bar wraps, and entire store environmental 2D and 3D graphic designs. Additionally, I conducted store surveys that involved taking measurements and photographs and creating light C.A.D. drawings from the data collected. I also occasionally installed window displays for the company in liquor stores in Colorado. This task included rubbing down vinyl (V.D.C.'s) onto windows, assembling foam core parts, placing props, and connecting and wire managing electrical components. During my time with the company, I estimate that I designed and was involved in 300-400 projects of various sizes, ranging from small 4' x 8' window displays to multiple window spaces with sales reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars.
