I oversaw the undergraduate internship program, placing over 100 students annually in positions related to their studies in the Department of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism. I regularly worked individually with students, overseeing undergraduate honors projects as well as independent study work. Having I completed my MS in December 2010, I subsequently continued my work with Dr. Bill Stewart. I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation "Wildlife-Inspired Awe in Leisure-Based Learning" in Fall 2015 and deposited the manuscript in Spring 2016.

In cooperation with Dr. William Stewart, coordinating with Robin Hall and the Office of Recreation and Park Resources to create and implement research on elements related to the natural world. Current, ongoing, and previous work has included a natural land census of Illinois park, forest preserve, and conservation districts, the creation of the Illinois Wildlife Management ListServ, and maintaining a regular cooperative relationship with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Standard responsibilities include survey development and analysis.

Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

• Composed and edited educational and public relations materials for US Department of Agriculture, US Forest Service, and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie publications.• Constructed and maintained necessary hiking trail elements including but not limited to bridges and scenic overlooks.• Facilitated public contact through welcome center tours, informational discussion, book sales, and telephone direction.

Nygren Wetland Preserve

• Involved in restoration needs and developing and implementing strategies to maintain and restore a variety of native habitats at a variety of northern Illinois sites.• Assisted in plant inventory efforts, including locating waypoints and measuring transects in prairie, forest, and wetland ecosystems.• Assisted in annual bird survey efforts.

Atwood Environmental Center

Served in a variety of increasingly challenging seasonal and full time positions. Below is an abbreviated list of job responsibilities:• Provided instruction and direct leadership to program participants in various topics including, but not limited to, nature hikes, archery, river study, teams/challenge course, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, live reptile/birds of prey presentations, and site interpretation• Assisted Program Manager in coordinating and implementing special events.• Developed, coordinated, promoted, implemented and evaluated environmental recreation programs.• Contributed to the development and execution of the center’s annual program and facility budget and operational plan.
