I do this via three connected offerings, all related to better delivery of projects & programmes :- training and consultancy in major projects procurement, especially in the development of the contract strategy for major, complex &/or innovative arrangements;- practical training and consultancy on the use of the NEC family of contracts. I was elected on a manifesto:- of improving the value proposition for members, so that they get more for their money and- fulfilling our remit as a chartered organisation to be of public benefit in promoting project management - or 'getting in the face of society' as I put it - as a I fervently believe that better conceived and delivered projects can have major impact on society, whether that is economically, socially &/or environmentally. Over my time as a trustee, I resisted numerous requests to put my name forward for chair as, with my other commitments, I would have struggled to find the time to do it properly. In my last year, I did become deputy chair.

I was asked to re-invigorate this Special Interest Group (SIG) in mid-2007. We ran numerous events per year both by ourselves and with other Branches and SIGs and authored 'the APM Guide to Contracts and Procurement' for which I was a lead author and co-editor.

As a member of the Editorial Advisory Board, I reviewed & constructively critiqued papers, occasionally have the final word on whether to publish and contributed to the overall direction and future themes for issues.

Membership of the board is made up of representatives from other construction related professional institutions, who have their usually have their own adjudicator lists and nominating body. I was the APM's representative, who don't ! While nominally guardians of the CIC ANB list and process, as a pan-sector board, we also discuss issues and develop guidance which apply across the industry and, being the CIC, present one face to government. I would like to think that I was behind its current push into other more proactive forms of dispute resolution.

St. Basils not only houses up to 450 otherwise homeless young people, but works with them to get them out of the cycle of homelessness. It has a 94% success rate.As a non-executive director, I helped transform this charity from one struggling to be viable and predominantly providing accommodation to a financially secure leader, in terms of quality of service provision, in its sector. While the real heroes are the staff at the front line, I am proud to have played a part.

Very part time supervising research at Masters & PhD level and giving occasional lectures.

2 years industry funded part time research ultimately resulting in the publication of a well received book titled 'Procurement Routes for Partnering : a practical guide' in 2002.

Investigating the practical use of the NEC Engineering and Construction Contract under one of its co-instigators. As well as being an acknowledged contributor to the 2nd & 3rd editions, it also resulted in a 'top selling' (relatively speaking !) book titled 'The NEC Engineering & Construction Contract : a user's guide'.
