➤ Pioneering New Media VenturesI embarked on my journey as a young entrepreneur within the realm of international travel and entertainment running my own conference and concert production company. During a trip to the United States in 1980, I had the privilege of meeting Professor Nicholas Negroponte, the visionary behind MIT's Medialab. Captivated by the burgeoning realm of new media technology, I swiftly recognized the vast market potential of online services, extending even to Europe. With this revelation, I made the pivotal decision to redirect my career. In 1987, Elsevier's Weekly bestowed upon me the title of "one of the genuine pioneers charting the course of future electronic highways."➤ Venturing into Digital PublishingDuring my tenure at ITT World Directories, I assumed the role of a manager responsible for marketing, sales, and product development across Yellow Pages, Europages, and their innovative electronic business directories. Following this, I was entrusted with the role of Commercial Director at Pernod Ricard. However, after a year, I swiftly returned to the media sector. I held executive positions in both a Dutch cable TV news provider and the Netherlands' inaugural network catering to PC users. A pivotal moment occurred when I merged the network with KPN, subsequently taking on the mantle of overseeing their national value-added services marketing.➤ Innovating Networked MultimediaWhile at KPN, I recognized an escalating demand for networked multimedia. Inspired by this, I decided to depart from the company and, in 1992, co-founded CDMATICS through a strategic alliance with Philips. Our collaboration was centered around developing TeleCD—an innovative networked multimedia application. This groundbreaking creation hinged on the synergy between the nascent Philips multimedia platform and telephony networks. With prominent food retailer Albert Heijn as our launch partner, CDMATICS garnered global acclaim and earned numerous prestigious accolades.➤ Navigating the Dot-Com EraIn 1996, following Philips' acquisition of the source codes, my company's focus shifted towards internet consulting and project management.
