Deployed a dedicated Dev OPS team while moving to agile methodologies and developing the appropriate tools and measuring KPI’s. This resulted on an increased productivity of 3 fold in the first 2 months.Implemented a standardized methodology for evaluating performance across two axis (Delivery and Potential). After collaborating with the group SVP, this method is now adopted by the entire BIDM organization.Standardized data replication from Bank of the West to the IHC parent company became fragmented and lacked standards as a result of work being federated to multiple workstreams. Architected a metadata driven standardized solution for all workstreams to integrate data on a secured, encrypted bidirectional way. With a team of 7 engineers and a modest budget; Implemented a Data Replication framework that reduced latency to under 24 hours for first time objects and under 1 hour for incremental replication. Also reducing the need of engineering efforts returning an estimated 20 headcount capacity in the first 5 months since implementation. This capacity and the ability to enable critical Risk and Fraud Prevention models accounted for an estimated ROI in the millions over a year period.

Sr. Manager Data Technology Infrastructure EngineeringPaypal, Inc. 2011 - 2013Real Time fraud prevention models are big part of PayPal’s value added proposition. Integrating BigData mining and analysis from the Hadoop systems became a most have for PayPal to stay ahead on the fraud prevention area. With this need as a requirement, implemented an integration platform to move data logging (messaging data) near real time to a Hadoop platform for it to be mined at scale. This platform allowed for mined data to be moved back to the real time in memory databases (Terracota system).Enhanced merchant reporting and analytics replication environments from an 89% service level agreement (SLA) adherence to a continuous 99+% adherence by revamping ETL framework which allowed the company to offer new services and tools to merchants.TTM hindered by monthly releases and scalability affected by aging designs were two of the main problems affecting the payments processing engine. Acting on a role of Steward and advisor, architected and delivered the migration of C++ batch jobs to Informatica for the payments processing and financial reconciliation areas reducing execution time from hours to minutes and improving TTM to a more agile ad hoc schedule.PayPal has a strong 99.99% availability requirement for back end systems. The ETL infrastructure was continuously failing this KPI. With a team of 6 engineers and an appropriate budget; migrated PayPal’s ETL infrastructure from a multipoint of failure implementation to a full tolerant Informatica grid environment that spawns multiple data centers and security zones. This enabled the infrastructure to achieve a 99.99% uptime and deliver to other critical SLA metrics.Transformed a high-performing team into a stellar engineering group that set expectations for enterprise-wide Data Technology Engineering practices in the areas of BigData, BI, ETL and Integration.

Sr. Manager Data Management OperationsPaypal, Inc. 2007 - 2011As data usage and needs exploded, system capacity diminished and CPU consumption increased leading to unsatisfied business users and delayed SLA completion times. Managed and delivered Multimillion dollar expansions to PayPal's world-class Teradata data warehouse systems; expanding the infrastructure from 8 to 16 to 64 to 128 nodes enterprise class infrastructure adding the estimated capacity and storage to accommodate to the forecasted demand. Strategized the right infrastructure size, and negotiated multimillion dollar contracts with the vendor.Implemented PayPal’s first Hadoop system that paved the way to the creation of two other world class multi petabyte Hadoop implementations.The ETL infrastructure didn’t scale to the needs to analyze event data in near real time. To remove that impediment, implemented a GoldenGate data delivery integration between an Oracle rules based event engine and a Teradata 2600 appliance used in fraud prevention and Risk analytics models. This implementation allowed to move to a 1 minute interval data replication.TTM for Release Engineering was at a critical point were it took a minimum of 7 days to deploy workflows. Improved the delivery latency to 24 hour cycles by Establishing Change Control and Release Management practices and automation for the PayPal data warehouse infrastructure. Applied agile practices to Release Engineering thus enabling quick turnaround.Built a world class global operations systems from the ground up in Chennai, India introducing innovative managing and monitoring processes that were later adopted by other groups with in PayPal. Scaled this operation from to a well optimized twenty four member team providing 24x7 support on all platforms in four locations across the globe.Implemented Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance controls in collaboration with Internal/External Audit.
