I’m not big on generic cliches, but I genuinely and wholeheartedly believe in a people first philosophy. This includes establishing a culture of inclusion, equity, and diversity. As leaders, we must promulgate decisions and policies that promote diversity and safe work environments reinforced by a culture of trust, respect, and professionalism. It’s a continuous approach that goes beyond printed leadership philosophies and instead, requires awareness and intention in every word and action. Coaching, mentoring, and training is also analogous to a people first philosophy. Not unlike effective communication, these are baseline requirements for developing highly competent employees and effective teams. As I look back, I realize the recipe for success is quite simple. If you take care of your people, your people will take care of you. The goal is to create a flexible and malleable environment perfectly suited for group-buy-in, commitment, and innovation to deliver scalable success consistently.
