I was working in the Engineering Department as a Pipe designer. I obtained the pipe preliminary sketches from our clients and accurately interpreted them in a way where when designing them in AutoCAD they were simple yet on target and easy to read for our shop workers to manufacture. I was the Crew Chief which meant responsible for a company truck, company gas card, a very expensive and delicate surveying robotic instrument, and mostly an assistant which I was practically teaching along the many things about not only surveying if not construction itself. Communicating with the rest of the company is important, but keeping track of the tasks needed out in the field was even more. From the men who pour concrete into a column forming, to the asphalt sub contractor that needs measurements to pour asphalt, we needed to be there on time. Which is why surveyors are mostly the first ones out in the field to set up stake out points so that work can be done early in the morning and we are also the last ones setting stakes and leaving measurements ready for the next day.
