I am currently employed at the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in the State of Washington, where I am grateful to serve as the Director of Network Operations. I was originally hired on at the end of 2018 as a Network Engineer to help the Agency migrate from on-premises to the State Data Center. Our team was able to complete the project well before the deadline and below budget. I continued to further expand our infrastructure to Microsoft Azure in an attempt to look ahead at emerging technological trends. A large part of our efforts to modernize from an on-premises to a cloud infrastructure includes assessment, remediation, and mitigation to our network environment. This is done through traditional vendor updates and patches, as well as coordinating with the State Auditor’s Office during routine audits to identify areas of improvement.As the Director, I am responsible for a team of System Administrators and a Technology Support team. Together we have fundamentally changed our service delivery model to a hybrid state and have become elastic by providing support to all internal and external stakeholders, in person or remotely. I also work with other divisions in our Agency to assist and implement technological controls that reflect our administrative policies. This includes data retention and business continuity planning.Prior to coming to OSPI, I was a Network Engineer for NASA at Johnson Space Center. Our team worked with the Information Resources Directorate (IRD) to provide support to the internal network. This included installing, maintaining, and replacing broken or obsolete networking equipment on JSC and other NASA affiliated sites. We also helped migrate the telephone system from analog to Voice over IP (VoIP).
