I am an Associate in the Infrastructure transaction advisory team in Arup London. I provide technical advice to infrastructure owners and operators during transactions and afterwards in construction and operation phases. I also provide advice to Lenders during and after transactions as part of their due diligence and technical assurance requirements. I bring to clients the full breath of Arup's capability from conception to project handback and from deep technical knowledge to our financial and organisation advice. I focus on enabling my clients to understand the issues important to them, to mitigate risks and achieve the value they seek.

I am managing the commercial divestment preparation activities within some Capita Portfolio companies ahead of planned divestments. Working with the multi-disciplinary divestment team to maximise value and deliver a smooth separation for all parties. This includes senior stakeholder management, strategic commercial judgement, input to the corporate development and responding to potential buyers.

I am the Lenders Technical Adviser on the greenfield D4R7 Bratislava motorway PPP project. I am advising the commercial and multi-lateral Lenders on programme, cost, environmental, dispute and payment issues among others.

I provide technical advice to equity and debt providers investing in Public Private Partnerships (PPP). I have experience in due diligence, construction and operational phases of major infrastructure PPPs across Europe. My sector specialisations are highways and railways.

I am the Lenders Technical Adviser for a number of motorway PPPs in Portugal. I advise Lenders on operational performance, routine and lifecycle maintenance, traffic levels, toll/availability revenue, costs including technical and handback requirements. I have also provided technical advice for refinancings.

Joseph led the physical toll Infrastructure input for Capita's bid to operate the M50 free-flow toll in Ireland. Joseph managed the input for the gantry design and construction, roadside infrastructure, traffic management and the integration of the electronic toll equipment.

Worked on secondment to a national railway framework contractor as a design manager. This 5 year NEC3 framework aimed to deliver all the maintenance and upgrade work on the Sussex lines. I worked as design manager for two projects; one a 40m viaduct replacement and a footbridge replacement.I held responsibility for procuring and managing the design including: writing the scope, assessing the tenders, ensuring delivery and constructability and managing changes. This required technical knowledge as well as strong project management skills.

I was seconded on site to a Principal Contractor as a technical and commercial representative for a £125 million Energy from Waste plant project. I was responsible for successful delivery of the £10 million foundation solution, which included a deep basement and piled building foundations. In this role I carried out technical design reviews, inspection and quality control as well as commercial management including scope change negotiations. The plant basement and foundations were successfully completed within budget and programme.

Upon achieving my Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE) status, I became a senior geotechnical engineer. I planned, supervised and interpreted ground investigations for projects. Working under a director, I also led design teams for a number of small and large projects. These included an upgrade to the M1 Junction 10A, for which I managed the ground investigation and geotechnical design involving; foundation, embankment and slope design.As well as primarily carrying out design and supervising other designers I was responsible for managing the bids, and delivering to budget and programme. This gave me experience of planning, delegating, leading and ensuring scope changes were captured and costs recovered. I implemented the company objectives of delivering value for clients by ensuring my designs were efficient, constructible, safe and sustainable.

I carried out geotechnical design for retaining walls, slope stability, ground improvement, shallow and deep foundations. These designs varied from minor to multi million pound projects for national tier 1 contractors and major highway and railway clients. Working under a director, I was also responsible for the independent geotechnical design check of a Crossrail embankment. This was technically complicated and required advanced geotechnical knowledge and skill.

I worked on site as one of the client’s representatives on a tunnel project. My responsibilities included communicating progress to the client and ensuring compliance with agreed work method statements, designs and drawings. I assisted the client in dealing with contractual issues such as health and safety compliance and commercial negotiations.

General geotechnical and tunnel design for projects in the London area. From feasibiliby studies to detailed design.I worked mainly on the design associated with a deep 2.5m diameter cable tunnel through London Clay. This included drafting an options report considering the legal, financial and technical constraints of each option and presenting a preferred solution.
