Sea-Going Technician
Current-Work as a sea-going technician to perform Ecosystems Surveys Branch sponsored bottom trawl surveys (BTS) from Cape Hatteras to the Scotian shelf. Collect data to monitor: 1) trends in abundance, biomass, and recruitment 2) geographic distribution of species 3) ecosystem changes 4) trends in biological parameters 5) environmental data-Complete collaborative research projects with commercial fishermen to better understand the catch efficiency of BTS fishing gear and estimate catch efficiency for several flatfish species.-Sort and identify fish and invertebrate species commonly found in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. Identify sex/determine maturity stage of various species. Remove age structures such as otoliths and vertebrae.
