Lead development of a novel, low-cost respiratory monitor for preterm newborns in sub-Saharan Africa from bench, to pilot clinical evaluation in NICUs in Africa and Texas, toward regulatory clearance

Working to make biotherapeutics accessible to all

Worked with Stryker Engineering R&D team to develop a machine learning and signal processing algorithm to classify artifact in 12-lead ECG signals for LIFEPAK 15 device. Presented work at UW Bioengineering Capstone Symposium and to Stryker.

• Novel, low-cost capnograph to address low-resource setting need for safer anesthesia breath monitoring.• Lead build of circuit/LabView prototype, presented team pitch and prototype as finalist at 2019 Hollomon Health Innovation Challenge to over 150 judges.• Lead and trained 8 new team members to analyze circuit design and sensor viability, develop validation setups and experiments. In 6 months, built testing set up capable of delivering breath-mimicking CO2 to prototype, ensuring device met end-user defined constraints.• Over 2 years, helped raise over $4,000 in prototype funding. • Experience with market analysis, business planning, and collaboration with global and national partners such as the Lifebox Foundation, The University of Utah, DiaMedica, and stakeholders in Uganda, Seattle, and Nepal.

• Competitive study abroad program hosted through UW Department of Bioengineering , Dhulikhel Hospital, and Kathmandu University.• Traveled to live and work in Nepal with healthcare workers at Dhulikhel hospital and engineering students at Kathmandu University. • Conduct needs assessments for technology to improve health care delivery in three focus areas: cardiovascular health and disease prevention, infectious disease diagnosis and prevention, and accident and trauma care.• Presented work at Dhulikhel Hospital, Khatmandhu University, and University of Washington. Project entitled "Calibration Systems for Improved Medical Equipment Maitenance at Dhulikhel Hospital and Outreach Centers."• Potential to prototype device through senior capstone, to be sent back to Nepal for implementation.

• Designed and developed mobile app interface for easy, accessible automation and control for 24 2L Bioreactors.
