I am a marine biologist and biophysicist with years of experience solving difficult and knotted problems both at the bench and out on the high seas. I am fascinated by the complexity of living things and I am committed to doing work that helps humanity live in greater harmony with the rest of life on earth. I think technology may offer us a means to escape the cruelties and inequities of the past and present if we can commit ourselves to doing so. I am eager to work with and learn from a team of colleagues who share that audacious but essential vision that a more just world is at our doorstep.

My CT scanning work has focused on developing a metric for measuring the fractal dimensionality of bryozoan colonies I collected during a 3 month NSF-funded deployment to the Weddell Sea in Antarctica. This and accompanying transcriptomic analysis by collaborators is broadly interested in how bryozoans form their skeletons and how bryozoan colony ultrastructure influences water flow and creates microhabitats for other benthic settling animals.
