I'm also the cognizant… Show more As a Program Director in the Office of Emerging Frontiers and Multidisciplinary Activities (EFMA), my responsibilities encompass ideation and ideation-related pedagogy. The Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation program (EFRI) - the signature activity of the EFMA office - funds multidisciplinary research in emerging areas with significant potential to address national or societal challenges. I oversee the selection of funding priorities for the EFRI program. I'm also the cognizant Program Director for the NSF-funded Engineering Research Visioning Alliance, which is charged with leading the research community in identification of novel engineering research directions. The Germination program, for which I am Program Director, focuses on developing pedagogical platforms and frameworks to train academics to formulate research questions with substantive potential for societal impact. Most recently, I've been exploring the Ideas Lab approach to research project ideation developed by KnowInnovation; through EFMA sponsorship of an Ideas Lab focused on development of novel strategies to deliver Personalized Engineering Learning.
