Hi 👋🏽 I’m Shelby and I am living proof that community matters. Here's my story...My rough transition into adulthood required relentless & adamant people who cared about engaging me in an intentional and constructive way.Because I had positive encounters with adults who were compassionate & relatable, I eventually:- Improved my interpersonal skills - Had a better attitude about school - Enhanced my self-esteem and self-confidence - Built stronger relationships with my parents, teachers & peers - Improved my grades & academic performance - Started thinking about higher educational aspirations - Expanded in my own interests & strengthsMy desire to give back the support & mentorship that I have been given is because it was undeniably the power of community that was central to my long-term success. Understanding that being of service or being an influence can look so many different ways sparked my entrepreneurial journey that I marked as Jsay Strategy Solutions - a relationship oriented organization dedicated to youth outreach, impact, & community wellness.A love for english, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, & over a decade of being a public servant in some form or facet - I wanted to take everything I discovered about life, learning, culture, human behavior, self development, & social impact strategies to attempt my own spin at education & mentorship.Through navigating a new business & being a rookie high school English Language Arts Teacher, I’ve accomplished so many wonderful things: 💅🏽 Appointed successor to the Vice Principal only 4 months in being a Teacher after being SO nervous about leaving my career at 911 to take on education 🎡 Volunteered at a summer camp centered around kids learning life skills while having fun & made so many great memories with students & staff 🎨 Painted a story with words through Grant Writing and landed state funding🌱 Created an enrichment program focused on academic achievement, character and community 📈 Selected as a Mentor with the City of Rochester & the Mayor’s Mentor UP Gala🫱🏾‍🫲🏽 Attended hours of networking, community service & engagement events w/ other local organizations dedicated to social work If there’s one thing you can take from my journey to learn, it’s this … Knowledge is the real currency of the world.
