Developed and taught the music component for the World as it Could Be, Summer Institute, teaching Bay Area high school teachers how to teach Human Rights Education through the performing arts.

One of the most powerful Thanksgivings I ever spent was when I worked as a counselor at Boyer Marin Lodge. It was a unique, holistic treatment program including an organic garden, art studio and camping trips. Working with young adults experiencing severe disturbances in psychological functioning and adaptation to everyday life, we used interactive, high quality, daily life in a beautiful group home as the treatment frame. The goal for our residents was to successfully complete a year in our program and graduate to a supported independent living apartment. That Thanksgiving the residents cooked a feast. Before sitting down to eat we sang Amazing Grace, everyone in full voice - a miracle in itself for some. The line, “I once was lost, but now am found,” was sung as statement, hope and prayer. I ate dinner that night with some of the most courageous people I’ve ever met.My job responsibilities included providing milieu therapy, group therapy, and individual psychotherapy. I served as head of the Cooking and Outdoors Programs.
