Fine is a digital agency focused on branding and design for diverse clients.● Developed full-stack Rails web apps for clients using FINE’s open source Rails CMS ‘Fae’.● Contributed to development of internal tools including Curia (app tracking for FINE apps - servers, IP addresses, etc.), Cookbook (FINE’s process wiki), and the Fae open source CMS.● Led the backend initiative for FINE’s first Rails API to be incorporated with Vue.js.● Communicated technical impact of design expectations and worked with design to find the best solutions.● Advised Project Directors on time expectations of development tasks.● Served as Lead for the development group in FINE's job shadow program. Lumen develops software that integrates with other learning management systems (Blackboard, Canvas, et al) to help teachers track student performance. ● Contributed as a Rails and React developer on Waymaker, an app for students to communicate with teachers, take tests, and follow customized study plans.● Rewrote the quiz grading algorithm for an open source learning product Open Assessments (forked by Lumen).● Built new Rails API endpoints.● Started initial RSpec framework and tests for Rails API.● Refactored, updated, and thoroughly tested the core quiz grading functionality.● Learned React and maintained, created, and tested components.● Taught Rails concepts to co-workers.● Saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and loved it.The most rewarding part of my experience with Lumen was working with a team that not only valued the success of themselves, but of each other, the faculties at the schools they are working with and the students. The company was really all about human engagement in many ways. This is key for so many aspects in life but is so valuable to a development team in particular where human interaction can be so limited at times.

Given the volume of employees working in this fast-paced environment with little personal space, positive communication was not only preferable but absolutely necessary to the harmony of the experience. I constantly strove for better communication between co-workers and staff while continuing to produce a large quantity of quality product.

As an Assistant Manager I assigned tasks, developed schedules, promoted events, interviewed/hired staff, and managed inventory.

During my time at Loleta I worked as an aid to a kindergarten student with Autism. I had no previous experience working with people with special needs or even children when I began this role. I learned quickly that to help this boy succeed I needed to seek whatever resources and methods others found helpful in teaching children on the spectrum. I attended seminars, checked books out from the library, found information on the internet, reached out to a small group of mothers to children with Autism, etc. Eventually I found myself teaching the other instructors and staff at the school how to interact with the boy in a way he would find more welcoming and what to do when he was having an emotional crisis. This position was incredibly fulfilling on many levels. I was immersed in a work environment with a diverse age range, I was given the opportunity to explore solutions with the confidence of my peers and supervisors, as well as having daily personal communication with the parent about her child's progress. Being given the opportunity to work in such a positive and dynamic work environment was life-changing for me then and continues to inform my belief today that cohesive teams that inspire change in each other and those that they are helping is totally possible.
