Zoo Keeper: Herpetology
Current-Providing daily care for various reptile and amphibian species including a variety ofboth venomous and nonvenomous snake species, tortoises, lizards and alligators.- Managing various animal nutrition supplies (Produce, Mazuri and Repashy products), and substrate supplies.- Constructing and setting up both on and off-exhibit animal enclosures.- Daily recordkeeping using Zims software as well as creating and utilizing paper records, such as feeding charts.- Performing quarterly animal welfare assessments (AWA) for each individual animal in my care.- Performing medical treatments as prescribed by the vet.- Monitoring exotic animals for symptoms of illness, injuries, or other unusual conditions and reporting observations.- Conducting informal talks with the public in the form of a keeper chat which is a scheduled time for the public to plan their trip to the zoo around.- Connecting with visitors regarding animal natural history, conservation programs, natural habitats, care and feeding of exotic animals and other topics of interest.- Cross trained in the Entomology depatment.
