Initiated baculoviral foreign gene expression project for BD Research Center. Evaluated numerous technologies for application in molecular diagnostics, including: baculoviral expression of antibodies and cell adhesion molecules; phage display technology for protein engineering; reporter (luminescent) bacteriophage technology for identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing of infectious agents; and adaptation of Strand Displacement Amplification (SDA), a proprietary DNA amplification system, for RNA detection.

Studied transcriptional regulation of the baculovirus gp35 gene. Experience included construction of extensive linker-scan deletion library of promoter followed by analysis of library through promoter-driven CAT assay as well as Sanger DNA sequencing and Northern Blot of transcription products. Experience also included training collaborating researchers in baculoviral expression methodologies, supervising undergraduate students and overseeing routine laboratory functions.
