I’ll admit, I have a bit of an unfair advantage as a developer: I used to be a professional chef. In other words, I’m a veteran in deconstructing large problems into smaller, manageable components. I understand the value of testing, and the satisfaction that comes with finding more efficient solutions. Most importantly, I know the importance of continual learning: I love to learn, and I learn well.In the past, my role was best summed up as a superfood chef. Considered a pioneer in cooking with superfoods, I’m a 6-time published author with Union Square (formerly Sterling Publishing), with my work earning a spot on the New York Times bestsellers list, books translated into 11 languages, and over half a million copies sold worldwide. I developed thousands of health-conscious recipes, produced a dozen multimedia cooking courses, created countless educational videos, and regularly worked with major wellness brands, restaurants, and magazines as a superfood expert. Yet the only constant is change, and the day that I started coding (originally just to enhance a personal project), I knew investing in my tech skills had the potential to grow into something new and incredible. And it has.Today I am a full-time Front End Developer. I completed the Front End Developer program at Skillcrush coding school, along with additional training including Javascript, React, Python, and CSS Animation courses at Scrimba, and the Responsive Websites and Flexbox certificate courses taught by Kevin Powell. While I continue to add to my skill set, I’m currently working with clients to develop responsive, cross-browser compatible websites, upgrading/debugging legacy code, and implementing new features. Since I also have experience in graphic design (ArtCenter College of Design, 2001-2004), I enjoy ensuring aesthetics and UI design are high quality, too.Looking to the future, I am eager to continue exploring best-practices, new frameworks, and ever-improving technologies with equally motivated teams I can grow with. And, I hope to one day mentor new coders as an industry advocate, just as a handful of talented tech individuals have done for me.
