My duties included introducing students to various 2D and 3D software in conjunction with analog and digital fabrication methods through the investigation of materials, assembly, and tectonics. Students were asked to investigate material limitations, develop a process or approach to making using the specifics of each toolset all the while testing the capabilities of these technologies. A series of weekly design projects explored the translation of digital models generated from physical and digital 2D drawings into physical artifacts through both manual and digital fabrication tools. Students explored techniques utilizing a combination of laser-cutting, 3D-printing, plaster casting, CNC-routing, and CNC-milling. Each design exercise required a variety of digital and analog processes, post-production skills, and assembly culminating in a final project that highlighted process as integral to the final result. As a Digital Fabrication Assistant at the UT FabLab, I advised and assisted students and faculty in the realization of projects that utilize a variety of fabrication tools and techniques. My role required me to program digital files, advise on material choice, oversea machine operation and teach the safe and proper operation of digital fabrication equipment. My role required me to program digital files, advise on material choice, oversea machine operation and teach the safe and proper operation of digital fabrication equipment. This included the programming, operation, and maintenance of various types of 3D printer, 3 and 4 axis CNC mills, Abrasive Water-Jet, laser cutters, 3D scanners, and industrial robotic manipulators (robotic arms). I also had the opportunity to train other Fabrication Assistants on the programming, operation and safety protocols of these tools and occasionally provide demonstrations of the capabilities of the college's investment for visiting alumni and other interested parties. I worked directly with the Director of the School of Architecture to initiate a schematic redesign of the college’s website and subsequent implementation of proposed changes. My role required weekly meetings to evaluate the progress of precedent analysis, image curation, layout design, and to discuss potential trajectories as they relate to the identity of the college.
