About Justin Benton
I am a knowledge and information professional looking to connect people with the information they need, whether it's helping researchers discover their personal histories in archival collections, or working with foundations and nonprofit organizations to share the knowledge they fund and produce. I believe that knowledge sharing is essential to learning from and building upon the work of others and my work focuses on collecting, preserving, and sharing knowledge and encouraging open access and information exchange.Currently I am the Knowledge Management Specialist at Candid, a nonprofit dedicated to getting people and philanthropic organizations the information they need to do good in the world. In my role I develop special topic pages combining Candid's knowledge and information about given subjects, and also oversee Issue Lab, Candid's open access repository of more than 34,000 reports, studies, and other knowledge resources created by social sector organizations. My work centers on guiding nonprofits and foundations in sharing the work they fund and produce. Prior to joining Candid, I worked in cataloging and records administration in galleries and auction houses in New York and Chicago, and volunteered at Chicago area museums and research libraries. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois with a focus on special collections and digital preservation.
