Implemented a three year action plan towards transitioning thespecial education department to a high capacity level framework for students with disabilities.Assists teachers with the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) andreevaluations. Point of contact for any student/teacher issues orconcerns for the evening. Monitored all security and safety items to ensure a safe schoolenvironment. Submitted work-order requests for any maintenance or building mishap.

Guided the development and implementation of long-rangeand short-range plans for achieving special education goals and objectives in alignment withthe school division’s strategic plan. Facilitatedongoing staff development in Response to Intervention strategies. Monitored the developmentand implementation of all aspects of the special education program process. Collaboratedwith the leadership team regarding the discipline of students with disabilities. Maintainedaccurate database and files for students with disabilities. Wrote the School’s Request forProposal (RFP), for related services for school year 2015/16.

Led a team of instructional coaches. Provided professionaldevelopment and specific feedback to teachers to improve instruction. Ensured teachers werecurriculum mapping and designing effective lesson plans that were aligned to common corestandards. Completed classroom walkthroughs to evaluate teacher’s use of studentengagement strategies, effective teaching practices (Marzano), higher level thinkingquestions, standards/objectives to guide instruction, and differentiated instruction based ondata. Conducted discussions with teachers related to observations made on walkthroughs.Assisted with the development of the Math framework for curricular discussions andindividual students’ progress monitoring.

Increased graduation rate for students with special needs byfocusing on an academic educational plan in an effort to have more students graduate with astandard diploma rather than a modified diploma. Provided leadership in establishing thestandards for the site’s web-based program. Coordinated necessary steps to plan, set up, andmanage a successful credit recovery program. Collaborated with curriculum specialist toensure the online curriculum was aligned with Virginia’s Standards of Learning. Developedand facilitated a program that was a major contributor in increasing the graduation rate for allstudents from 65% to a 90% graduation rate within a 5-year time span.

Primary duties included planning and implementing instructionfor students with disabilities. Review referral data, history and assessment data todevelop appropriate goals and objectives for each student. Prepare instructional materialsand lesson plans according to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). Review IEPs withparents, school administrators and general educators. Utilize appropriate methods oflearning delivery and instruction to meet the needs of each student in the Least RestrictiveEnvironment (LRE). Monitor, evaluate and document each student's progress utilizingappropriate measurements and assessment devices.
