Sole devops engineer at an online educational collaboration startup based in AWS. I was brought on board to relieve all devops responsibilities from the application engineering team. As a long-term employee at a startup, I have guided our platform through several architecture revisions.- migrated our entire legacy application stack into containerization and Kubernetes (EKS)- advocated for moving to and then implemented a modern GitOps and CI/CD-based approach to development, deployments, monitoring, and ETL using tools such as ArgoCD, Helm, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Sealed Secrets- migrated our single legacy AWS account to a modern IaC Terraform-based multi-account setup, in AWS technical areas like Transit Gateway, VPC, IAM and cross-account policy and permissions, security segmentation- responsible for the supporting infrastructure for the application, including: MongoDB (Atlas) ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, S3, Redis, etc.- modernized most of the application stack, moving from a standalone Java Jetty web app to Spring Boot, and updating the Ruby on Rails application stack from ancient versions (rails 2.3 and ruby 1.8) to the latest versions, relieving technical debt- provided significant backend development work in Java and Ruby in areas like redoing password authentication, large-scale email delivery, and internal pubsub messaging- implemented a sensible local development environment which reduced developer on-boarding time from days to minutes; initially, in bash-based scripting, then Docker compose, and finally local Kubernetes Others: helped implement integration testing with rspec/capybara/selenium, and some assisting with Jest, managing all our master infrastructure accounts, bash scripting, unit and integration testing frameworks, security and password / secrets control in shared password management (LastPass), Chef, VPN, internet routing
