I process Incidental Harassment Authorization requests (primarily coastal construction projects) pursuant to the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
Lewes, De
I developed and implemented programs to promote healthy coasts across the state of Delaware specializing in marine debris removal and prevention, living resource conservation and management, and community engagement.
Smyrna
I represented the Fisheries and Wildlife Sections as the lead Environmental Review Coordinator for the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife. I reviewed proposed projects for applicants seeking compliance with environmental laws and permitting programs and I provided guidance to applicants and permitting authorities to avoid impacts to state-rare and federally protected species and habitats.
Dover, Delaware Area
I implemented marine spatial planning initiatives within the state and the mid-Atlantic region. I planned and facilitated public participatory mapping workshops and worked with industry and scientists to understand the complex interaction between many human uses and Delaware’s natural resources in Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. The data I created are used to inform ocean planning decisions in coastal and offshore mid-Atlantic waters.
I used biotelemetry techniques to assess habitat use of the federally protected Gulf sturgeon during periods of estuarine residency in a Northwest Florida. I also identified potential prey as indicators for habitat use.
I interfaced with fisheries managers, scientists, and industry representatives on a daily basis. Through clear and consistent communication I facilitated participation and buy-in from these stakeholders in order to enhance the program. I also served as a scientific party member on a NOAA Cooperative Tagging Cruise, and developed a passion for natural resource management that spurred me to pursue a graduate degree.
I coordinated the efforts of four collaborative expert groups to develop topic specific training guides related to public health preparedness.
