Kate serves as the Chief of Staff in the Healey-Driscoll Administration. Prior to her appointment as Governor Maura Healey's Chief of Staff, Kate served as First Assistant Attorney General. A former partner at the Boston law firm, Sugarman Rogers, she chaired the government law and election law practice groups and had an active pro bono practice focused on civil rights and civil liberties matters. In addition, Kate served as chief legal counsel to Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick. In that role, she advised the Governor and the executive branch on all legal, regulatory, and policy matters, and worked on a wide range of issues including judicial appointments, clemency decisions, and legislative and regulatory initiatives. She also has experience as the General Counsel to the Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee and as an Assistant Corporation Counsel to the City of Boston. A seasoned litigator, Kate has tried several cases and appeared before the First Circuit Court of Appeals and Supreme Judicial Court. She has over two decades of experience as a trusted advisor to public officials and state and local government agencies.
