Working with community stakeholders to deliver nature-based solutions to climate change and for multiple benefits to people and the environment.My main focus is on managing and delivering WRT's pilot project for the EU Interreg SPONGE 2020 project working together with our pilot partner Somerset County Council and the wider European project-partnership. I use spatial analysis combined with stakeholder engagement (including local authorities, water management organisations, community groups and others) to co-create small-scale nature-based solutions to the water related effects of climate change, improving the green infrastructure of urban areas in Somerset. I also manage and deliver related projects, including Westcountry Women Working With Water (funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering), in which we work with engineers from practice and academia in schools to encourage girls from low income backgrounds to engage with engineering and the positive contribution it makes to society, as well as foster an understanding of the use of nature-based solutions to some of the challenges present within the urban environment.Beyond this focus, I support other teams within the Trust with data analysis, GIS, and using the natural capital approach.

Assistance in the delivery of UNESCO World Heritage Volunteer Project "WachauVolunteer"I worked with a group of about 20 international volunteers on the conservation of dry grasslands in the cultural landscape of the Wachau region, a valley of the River Danube in Lower Austria. This involved not only working on site to maintain the grasslands but also directly engaging with different stakeholders (farmers or foresters owning the land, community representatives and others) and providing information on the activities of the Arbeitskreis. Apart from gaining insight into the management of multiple habitats for conservation, this experience also deepened my understanding of the different human pressures and influences on conservation - including the involvement of stakeholders and understanding the relations between different groups, the importance of motivating volunteers and making sure that goals and objectives are communicated to those involved. As the group consisted of people of very different backgrounds (cultural and ideological), I also strengthened my communication and mediation skills in dealing with different approaches to work and tensions within the group.

For this voluntary internship I was part of the Sustainability Team of Global2000, in specific the sub-group concerned with agriculture. This group worked together with REWE to develop a scheme of more sustainable agricultural practices for REWE suppliers (called ProPlanet), including a number of criteria like water and fertilizer use. My main task was to develop recommendations to enable biodiversity to be included in this list of criteria. This entailed:* Desk-based research on biodiversity in (non-organic) agricultura systems as well as practices and methods to increase biodiversity (with a main focus on viticulture)* Production of a report of my findings as well as recommendations for practices to be implemented by winegrowers who are part of the sustainable agriculture schemeThis report then fed into the development of recommendations for suppliers and subsequent criteria for participants of the ProPlanet scheme.
