Over the past five years I have delved increasingly deeply into the complexities of research governance and information security of research environments. Previously I had a varied scientific career, graduating from the University of Cambridge with a first class degree, winning scholarships to study for my PhD at the University of Melbourne, followed by ten years of postdoctoral research in Bristol and Edinburgh, and two years at the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin. I am an author/co-author on more than 30 research articles.

Nerc Research FellowRoyal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Oct 2005 - Jan 2010Edinburgh, United KingdomI won a prestigious NERC fellowship to work with Professor David Mann at the Royal Botanic Garden. Here I used a variety of DNA and microscopy techniques to study the diversity, distributions and population genetics of freshwater diatoms (microscopic algae) in Europe and Australia. I authored 16 publications and gave numerous presentations, both nationally and internationally. My work on DNA barcoding was particularly well cited. -
ResearcherUniversity Of Bristol Oct 2001 - Oct 2004I was a NERC-funded postdoctoral researcher in Professor Paul Hayes' lab, conducting the first detailed studies, using microsatellite markers, on the population genetics of marine phytoplankton. I sampled populations of diatoms and dinoflagellates in the UK and Germany.I published five papers from this research.
