Hi! My name is Kathryn DeYoung and I'm a freshman at the University of Washington with an interest in bioengineering, medicine, and prosthesis. I am passionate about finding the intersection between engineering and medicine to improve the function and mobility of prosthetic limbs so that they can operate as realistically as possible. In my journey to discovering these interests, I have explored STEM fields through a variety of courses, conducted an independent study regarding microneedle patches as an alternative drug delivery method, obtained my EMT-B license in Texas, and aided in the progress of the creation of a novel drug to combat hyperthyroidism. When I'm not in the laboratory, I'm an active food bank volunteer and swim lesson instructor. Some of my other hobbies also include swimming, baking, and reading.
