About Katie Wheeler
It's hard to summarize my career experience into a single job title. I haven’t followed a traditional career ladder – it’s been more of a zig zag. Here’s how it goes:-- I took my degree in Design Media Arts and spent 5+ years as a Designer, turned Motion Designer, turned Art Director. I loved being creative, and being surrounded by creatives.-- During a contract at Google, I was given an ultimatum: fill the more urgent need for a Creative Project Manager, or find my next design opportunity elsewhere. I was flattered and intrigued that someone saw potential in me to take on a role which I had limited background experience in. (Though I did have PM instincts – I was the designer who rattled on about naming conventions, folder structures, process documentation, etc…) I accepted the opportunity and the Project Manager in me blossomed.-- During my time as a PM, I sharpened my skills in stakeholder management, vendor management, communication and had the opportunity to work on various global training events. -- I landed at Quadmark after realizing I wanted to be back on the creative side of things. I took my PM experience and creative background and became an Account Lead, picking up new skills like team management, client management, scoping and pitching creative training solutions for Google's partner enablement.-- I pivoted again when a maternity cover opportunity to oversee Quadmark’s team of content writers popped up! During this year-long role, I learned to manage managers, handle escalations, collaborate with other leaders to affect change and contributed to creating and hosting QBRs with key clients.-- My current role at Quadmark is as an Account Director, a role that utilizes almost all the skills I’ve learned throughout my career. I oversee a team of Account Managers, Project Managers and Content Creators to manage one of the largest accounts in Quadmark. My job is to keep our clients happy, the team happy, and our bottom line happy. Running the account as a business has sharpened my financial acumen. While my day job is less creative than it used to be, I’ve been able to channel all my creativity into a personal passion – making fine art through Arrowknot Studio.
