About Katie Smith

My “why” always comes back to the kids. Our world faces lots of challenges, many of which seem insurmountable if I think about them long enough. What brings me hope, and drives the work that I do, is the knowledge of the innovation, creativity and genius that is within kids all over the world. From rural schools in the South Pacific to city schools in Baltimore, MD, I’ve met students who I know will change the world. My passion is ensuring that all of them, no matter the circumstance, have the opportunity to do so. Most recently, I’ve used that passion to support early-career and novice teachers to be highly effective, anti-racist educators through teacher preparation and graduate-level instruction in Maryland. I’m flexible, supremely organized, and a master of the “pivot.” I’m interested in organization that are doing great work, and work that allows me to support students, teachers and/or teacher educators. When I’m not busy working, I enjoy using my feet to take me places (walking, running or hiking), puzzles of any sort, and trying to replicate complicated baking projects with my minimal tools. Let’s connect!
