Abraham Lincoln once said "whatever you are, be a good one". I base my personal, academic and professional endeavours on this and strive for excellence no matter what I do. My interests are focused around emergency management, and provision of emergency healthcare services in rural and remote areas. I am interested in any opportunities to work in these areas. My passion for helping people in emergency situations has led me to positions as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Emergency Medical Technician for St John New Zealand. As a dispatcher I took emergency and non-urgent calls and processed them through the internationally-recognised MPDS triage system, and managed the ambulance response to these incidents. This included coordinating and resourcing major incidents. As an ambulance officer I work on frontline ambulances, attending and treating patients suffering medical and traumatic emergencies. Alongside my other activities I completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Paramedicine) to improve my clinical practice and broaden my knowledge. During my paramedicine degree I realised my passions lie in providing healthcare across many different areas, not just emergency care. I am now completing a nursing degree to allow me to pursue my goal of providing primary care and emergency response from a nurse-led clinic in rural New Zealand. I have particular interests in palliative care, preventative care and emergency care, and in improving healthcare access for rural populations. In my spare time I participate in a range of outdoor activities including rock climbing, surfing, skiing and tramping.
