Kayla is a photographer and writer whose work has been published by Martha Stewart Living, Fine Gardening, Gardenista & Landscape Architecture Magazine. Since 2019, Kayla has managed creative content for the award-winning Refugia Design, working alongside Refugia's team to craft compelling horticultural storytelling that engages and inspires. Integrating innovative technology with performative practices, Kayla brings a unique sensibility to Refugia’s multi-disciplinary team of talented horticulturists, landscape architects, designers, artists and designers. Together with partner and founder Jeff Lorenz, Kayla is responsible for creative outreach, branding and innovation. Refugia has won multiple local, national and international design awards from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, the Perennial Plant Association, the American Horticultural Society & the American Society of Landscape Architects together with national editorial recognition. Refugia’s annual participation (2015-22) in the largest and oldest flower show in the world, the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, culminated in a Gold Medal and the Governor’s Trophy 2022. When not taking photographs in a beautiful Refugia landscape, Kayla is a Certified Yoga Therapist for individuals recovering from injury, chronic pain or stress management. For her, native habitat is equally therapeutic in its invitation to be present and receive life’s daily doses of joy and wonder. Formerly from the UK, Kayla was classically trained at the conservatory of the Workshop Theatre, University of Leeds and École internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Kayla’s theatre work in the US & Canada is diverse: highlights include being the only female non-russian to join SLAVA'S SNOW SHOW for its record-breaking Off-Broadway run (2004-6). Kayla is also a former founding member of SaBooge Theatre (2003-2015), a Montreal and Brooklyn-based international ensemble of North American and European artists. Touring extensively throughout North America & Europe as part of Sabooge’s performance ensemble, Kayla’s work has also been published in Canadian Theatre Review 131. “One of North America’s most interesting theatre collectives” The Irish Times.
