-Searches crime scenes to collect and preserve physical evidence; reconstructs crime scenes to determine probable sequence of action; examines physical evidence for such elements as latent prints, bloodstains and bloodstain patterns, hair and fibers, tool marks, etc.; photographs crime and accident scenes. -Attends and observes autopsies to ensure examinations are pertinent to criminal investigations.-Packages and submits physical evidence for storage.-Processes and submits evidence to State and Federal Bureaus of Investigation, as appropriate, for analysis.-Prepares case files and/or illustrative materials, and testifies in court.-Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and/or file maintenance programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information as requested or otherwise necessary; prepares a variety of correspondence, reports and records.
