With over ten years of experience in biological research and ongoing graduate studies in data science, I am dedicated to tackling difficult questions with the power of data-driven insights. In my current role, I use tools such as MATLAB, Python, and machine learning software to observe and quantify the behavior of miniature, translucent fish in the recently discovered genus, Danionella. My ultimate aim is to decipher the neuronal circuit mechanisms underlying complex navigational behaviors in a vertebrate system. Research in living organisms often presents unexpected challenges, requiring persistence, strategic planning, and adaptability to achieve project goals. In parallel with my research endeavors, my graduate studies have provided me with strong proficiency in R for exploratory data analysis, modeling, and visualization. I am skilled at effectively communicating complex findings. While my background primarily involves generating and analyzing biological data, I am drawn to data science for its versatility in addressing diverse questions and problems across industries.Outside of work and school, I volunteer as a Certified Virginia Master Naturalist. I can also be found hiking, fishing and spending time with my dog. Please explore my portfolio at https://kdhenderson.github.io/projects/ and don't hesitate to reach out. I am enthusiastic about embracing new challenges and opportunities to apply my diverse skill set.
