I was in charge of 30 machine operators.Assisted engineering staff on site surveys, maintenance and renewal works.My main duties include: drive operate and maintain Plasser & Theurer 08 unimat compact plain line and P&C, 08 unimat 4x4/4s P&C, 08 duo-matic, 09 16/cat and 09 2X tamping machines, Plasser on maintenance and renewal sites both manually and using A.L.C geometry and front offset geometry files and A.L.C measuring mode. Operate Plasser USP 4000 ballast regulator. Survey and assess worksites prior to work and also inspect track after work for safe hand back. I have a sound knowledge of track geometry. Ensure that machine maintenance is carried out on a weekly basis and all breakdowns are repaired on site where possible.Carry out shift and safety tour reports after every shift I attend .My other duties include training needs analysis, on job and classroom training, mentoring, A1 assessments in railway safety, also on operating/maintaining/driving Plasser & Theurer 08 and 09 plain line and switch & crossing tamping machines, track geometry, manual operation, A.L.C operation and professional driving techniques and carrying out internal verification on assessments. I have also written and delivered training courses on professional train driving, track inspection and track geometry which includes: Track twist, clearances, ballast conditions and drainage, tamping machine’s twist limitations, 3&4-point lining versines and lift factor.

I joined Grant Rail as a crew manager and was trained on the new Matisa B45 and B41 plain line and switch & crossing machines and regulator I was also trained on the Plasser A.C.L computer system and the Matisa T.G.C.S. and G.E.C.O. systems. My duties for Grant Rail included rostering crews for the machines, making sure daily, weekly, six and twelve monthly services were carried out and on site repairs were made to complete the working shift, mentor trainee drivers, and carry out route risk assessments. Drive machine to and from worksites tamp renewal and maintenance sites both manually and with computer and download all work carried out. I carried out driver ride assessments and machine operational assessments. I attended a 12 week course with Matisa in Switzerland on operation, maintenance and repair and also extensive training in the UK with Matisa staff.

I started as a Cat 2 fitters mate in the Plant department with British Rail, my duties included helping fitters and electricians repair small plant cleaning station lights and point heater installations and maintenance. After a number of years I was promoted to a Cat 3 site lighting installer. I was then promoted to a T.R.A.M.M operator after passing the train drivers psychometric test and Rules & Regulations course. After 18 months I applied successfully for an Operator’s job on First Engineering’s new 08 tampers and attended a course at Plasser in Ealing for training on how to operate the machines. I was assessed and passed out on the 4x4 unimat switch & crossing tamper and the16 & 32 tool 08 plain line tampers. I worked with the flash butt welder as an assistant during holiday and sickness cover.
