It's funny where life takes you. I started teaching piano lessons when I was 15. I had dreams to be a choir director and applied for the music program at BYU. Got in and hated it - it was not a good match. With the desire to learn how to tape an ankle for my little JV soccer team I enrolled in a basic Athletic Training class and fell in love. I could not learn enough and was always trying to find new treatments, new taping techniques, new rehabilitations. As my career progressed I knew the profession I had chosen would not allow me to stay at home with my children so I phased myself out of Athletic Training. This did provide new opportunities to experiment with my interests to determine other marketable skills. I took ballet lessons - no career there. I took cake decorating - love to create art and then eat it. I researched and practiced photography - kept me busy for a couple of years but I did not give it enough energy to master. I taught at the University of Phoenix for almost 10 years and really loved teaching those classes. I tried a couple of direct sales ventures which gave me bags full of wonderful samples but no long term employment. Now I am back, full circle, teaching piano lessons and I work as a contracted accompanist for several schools in my area. And just when I think the knowledge gained in my formal education is wrapped in cobwebs, I bandage up and medicate my family and trusting friends without skipping a beat. Wouldn't change a thing.
