Synapse - Life Science Connect is a remarkable organization working towards bridging the gap between life science industry and academia. The organization in Aarhus is among others spearheaded by former students of mine, and I enjoy to support their great ambitions e.g., in hosting a career fair.

The PhD association at Dept. of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) at Aarhus University works for better terms for the PhD students at the department as well as hosting the annual PhD conference. My involvement is mostly in the latter.

The Young Scandinavian Society for Immunology (ySSI) is an official part of the Scandinavian Society for Immunology (SSI), an organization bridging the national immunological organizations in the nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland). SSI is part of the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) which also has a branch for early career researchers called yEFIS, with whom we collaborate. EFIS is then again part of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS). The work for ySSI includes contributions to the annual SSI conference as well as hosting a seminar series and other outreach activities.

Inflammation and Infection (I&I) is one of five research themes at Dept. of Biomedicine at Aarhus University. As part of the board of young researchers, we host journal clubs and seminars for the department.

As a Student counselor I help the department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at different arrangements. For example, as a laboratory instructor for high-school students at ‘studiepraktik’ on molecular biology or molecular medicine.

At my second year of the university, I committed as a tutor for new Chemistry, Medicinal chemistry, Molecular biology and molecular medicine students in the association TKM, ‘Tutorforeningen for Kemi og Molekylærbiologi’.

UNF is an association of primarily university students who organize lectures at the Danish universities and - especially for me - organize Science Camps for high school students to try out university-level natural science in a week in their summer vacation. I was participant myself at Biotech Camp 2015 (AU) and have been volunteer since then. I’ve been organizer for Physics Camp 2016 (AU), Math Camp 2017 (DTU), Math Camp 2018 (DTU), Biotech Camp 2019 (Pharmaschool, KU), Biotech Camp 2020 (AU) and Biotech Camp 2021 (AU). Since 2021, my role has been more supportive.

I attended the 2nd semester (3rd and 4th block) of the MSc in Immunology and Inflammation at the university of Copenhagen. With the courses: SIIK16004U Allergy, Autoimmunity and Inflammation (15 ECTS), SIIK19001U Skin Immunology (7,5 ECTS) and SIIK20001U Applied Immunology (7,5 ECTS).

As a Laboratory Assistant and Research Technician at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) I had responsibility for a GMO class I laboratory through solvent preparations, lab-safety precautions and cell-work (primarily with 3T3 fibroblasts). I had the pleasure to help on a lot of different PhD-projects with cell-work, write protocols for safety- and cell-work and get common experience with the practicalities of running a lab, such as organization and aseptic handling of utensils. Furthermore, I functioned as an instructor at the DTU course “The Biocompatibility of Materials” with professor Niels Bent Larsen and Laboratory leader Jannik Pedersen, working under professor Thomas Lars Andresen.

I spend 3 months at the Oasis Backpacker Hostel in Granada Spain, where I worked with preparing breakfast, renting out apartments and doing tourist ‘Tapas-tours’. In my time in Spain I learned a lot about being open to new challenges, being accommodative towards new people and cultures, and it gave me - not the least - a huge yield in my language competences in both English and Spanish.
