At Hull & Company, I worked as an Associate Broker in the E&S Marketplace, specializing in Property and Casualty risks. I worked on a team of five and assisted the lead broker on our team in maintaining and growing a portfolio of over $1,500,000 in revenue. I have experience building a binding program in a niche industry from ground-up and adjusting to market changes. I had the opportunity to travel to London to intern at Decus Insurance Brokers, Ltd. for 8 weeks. Decus Insurance Brokers is an American owned insurance intermediary that is one of many subsidiaries of Brown and Brown Insurance Company. It conducts business in the wholesale market, broking high-risk accounts to the underwriters at Lloyd’s of London. Decus Insurance Brokers has several broking departments, including teams in Professional Liability, Property/Motor, Theft and Cargo, and Financial Institutions. There are also teams working on Claims, Accounts, and Technical service for the company. My time there was spent work shadowing each department, concentrating my time heavily with the three broking teams. I visited Lloyd’s of London on a daily basis, meeting with underwriters, shadowing head brokers while they negotiated large accounts, and even broking a few renewal accounts myself. Because Decus was such a small office, consisting of only 27 employees, I was able to gain experience from each department and truly understand how a broking firm operates. I had daily tasks of entering data from new accounts or renewals into the online software, sending emails to past due accounts, filing bordereaux and account portfolios, and creating new account portfolios.
