Maintained both short-term and long-term news coverage and planned accordingly with available crews. Established effective working relationships with public relations executives and public information officers, including those at governmental agencies at local, state and national levels in order to enhance coverage. Used all forms of available communication, including social media, to guarantee timely and accurate dissemination of newsworthy information in a competitive environment. Approved scripts daily for both producers and reporters. Provided leadership and guidance to less-experienced news employees through mentoring and training exercises.

Responsible for researching, developing, writing and producing daily news stories for multiple newscasts daily. Stories often included events that were both scheduled and ‘breaking’ which required flexibility in my role. Coverage required that I had a working knowledge of many different topics and could relate complicated information in a quick and informative way. Spot news often required hours of non-stop on-air coverage. Topics included trial coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing suspects, deadly storm outbreaks and legislative agendas, all while ensuring that reports were both factually correct and relevant to a statewide audience.
