The Land Trust Alliance leads the nation’s land trust community working to accelerate the pace, improve the quality and ensure the permanence of land conservation across America. As Director of the Northeast Region for the Land Trust Alliance I work across the eleven states from Maine to Maryland to achieve the Alliance’s goals by strengthening land conservation success for our 500 land trust member organizations in the region. With a regional staff of five, along with a team of expert consultants, we design and deliver programs that build effective and sustainable organizations, fosters partnerships and leadership, and provides opportunities for land trusts to expand how they think about and engage communities in broader and deeper ways. Using direct grant investments as one key tool among others, the Northeast Region provides nearly 100 land trusts annually with over $2.6 million in funding to advance their effectiveness and grow their impact.

Connecticut

Managed three year study process of the Eightmile River Watershed for inclusion in the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System. The process, a public-private partnership approach, included determining eligibility and suitability of the Eightmile River as a Wild & Scenic River, determining outstanding natural and cultural resource values, acting as the National Park Service spokesperson when engaging communities on the study, and being primary author on the Eightmile River Watershed Management Plan. In addition, was Project Leader for a National Scenic Trail Study of the Connecticut section of the Metacomet Monadnock Mattabesett Trail System, now called the New England National Scenic Trail. Led efforts regarding identifying outstanding values and management issues, coordinating community engagement and participated in drafting management blueprint for the trail system.

Simsbury, Ct

Led established river protection organization dedicated to the long-term health of the 81-mile Farmington River and its 600 square mile watershed. Identified and implemented strategies to promote balanced uses of a river with significant water supply, boating and angling demands. Was spokesperson for the organization building partnerships with a myriad of local, state and federal government agencies as well as user groups and water utilities. Had primary responsibility for setting budget, coordinating and leading fundraising, and hiring and managing a staff of five.
