I led efforts to design, convene, and facilitate multi-party problem solving interactions to develop consensus policy positions on some of our most complex public issues. In this role, I provide strategic direction, portfolio management, project management, budgeting, staff, communications, fundraising, and more. My projects spanned several areas of interest, including climate and energy legislation and policy, public infrastructure investment, and sustainable consumption. My policy efforts included: - Convening thought leaders and policy makers to set aggressive goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector using solutions such as electric vehicles, biofuels, mass transit, first/last-mile mobility; - Leading strategic planning for oceans and wildlife campaigns; and - Designing state and local transportation policy dialogues. I also directed a national coalition of over 40 grassroots and people of color organizations focused on public lands and conservation policy; this group influenced a 2017 Presidential Memorandum on diversity and inclusion in federal land management. It is my deeply held principle to incorporate equity in all our programmatic offerings.

I provided leadership in the development and implementation of strategic planning processes, collaborating with senior teams and key stakeholders in Washington, D.C. and the Maryland Eastern Shore to analyze and convert objectives into actionable initiatives for environmental organizations. Delivered strategic recommendations encompassing program direction, communications, fundraising and financial management.I helped to define program objectives and PR strategy while providing insight on fundraising. My community outreach and advocacy efforts resulted in a unified public statement from 25 African-American clergy urging public action on climate change with recommendations for clean energy job creation, environmental evangelism, and sustainable consumption in congregations nationwide.

I championed the objectives of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership to resolve issues around energy and climate policy, sustainability, public infrastructure, and more. The role involved project management, sound financial stewardship, and the thoughtful shepherding of both internal and external teams. I also led economic modeling efforts which included various assumptions and policy scenarios. I supported and mentored colleagues in their pursuit of new program areas such as privacy, transportation, and sustainable consumption while marshaling resources to put on a national summit on infrastructure strategy. The Institute’s efforts resulted in consensus policy agreements between captains of industry, utilities, and environmental activists and led to the introduction of the Waxman-Markey Bill in the 111th Congress.

As a board member, I supported strategic planning efforts for expansion of organization, including hiring of new executive director and deputy director and relocation of headquarters to Washington DC. As board chairperson, I oversaw organization restructuring after 2008 economic crisis, focusing on revamping our fundraising strategy to include more corporate and individual giving and conducting fundraising trips with the ELP Executive Director, streamlining program offerings while maintaining quality, and expanding board participation. I spearheaded training efforts to enhance problem-solving skills of fellows and clients and improved the quality and efficiency of our programs with increased board participation.

Identified opportunities for the NWCC to work with individuals and stakeholder groups on wind energy issues. Facilitated work group discussions and activities; conducted research and analysis of various wind issues, including economic development opportunities for local communities and transmission; and maintained an awareness of wind energy activity in the United States. Also provided facilitation services for other projects, including federal and local agency strategic planning, and state transportation projects.
