I am an early childhood educator with a passion for nature education and children's early literacy. I have experience working with children from birth to age 7 in public school, private school, and the public library setting. I also have 12 years of informal education experience as a Girl Scout troop leader for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. I am starting my 10th year of teaching and my 8th year in kindergarten. I value the important role that reading has in a child's life and in their ability to build background knowledge, engage in conversations, and learn to read. I enjoy sharing my love of books with children through engaging and hands-on story times. I am LETRS trained and following my state's lead on ensuring that all children explicitly learn how to read with the principles of the Science of Reading. I have a strong passion for learning outdoors. Between remote learning and the increasing use of screens, children need to spend more time outdoors to play, learn, and explore. I enjoy taking regular lessons and bringing them to life as engaging, outdoor learning experiences. I obtained my Level 1 Nature-Based Teacher Certification from ANBE in 2020 and my Level 2 in 2024. I piloted the Forest Days model with our kindergarten students at my Title 1 school during the 2023-2024 school year. Forest Days will be returning to our school for the 2024-2025 school year for kindergarten and first grade students.
