Best Friends Animal Society is leading shelters across the United States to no-kill in 2025. Communicating what no-kill is, Best Friends' role to get there, and how individuals can help is key to gaining critical public awareness and support. In this curated role, I am working to create a messaging architecture and unify our messaging across the organization. I work across multiple teams to determine key communications and synergy across 12+ channels, and to ensure our language and key data points are updated and easily accessible through easy-to-use tools

In this role, I managed the development and implementation of marketing and communications, outreach and event plans for the national organization's regional programs and priority locations from coast to coast. Working collaboratively and strategically across multiple teams, identifying and prioritizing communications and outreach needs. I guided timelines and developed and implemented plans to reach our 2025 goal. I specialized in establishing our presence and our brand in new locations, growing support and resources in local markets. My final project in this role was to build brand and market lifesaving programs in Northwest Arkansas, including the highly successful opening of our Pet Resource Center in Bentonville.

Communications, marketing and outreach manager for the Salt Lake City-based Utah programs of Best Friends Animal Society. I oversee all of our marketing, community outreach, social media and other communications for the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Sugar House, the Orem and South Ogden Best Friends Spay and Neuter Clinics, lifesaving kitten nursery, low-income pet food pantry, our spay and neuter voucher program, community cat program and public assistance, our twice-yearly NKUT Super Adoption event, the long-running Strut Your Mutt fundraiser and festival, and additional hosted and third-party events throughout the year. I manage creative concepting, budgeting, messaging, production, placement and distribution, community and business partnerships with the assistance of a small team.

I handled marketing for Best Friends Animal Society events, including twice-yearly NKUT Adoption Weekends, the annual Strut Your Mutt and third-party event participation. I also actively pursue and manage community outreach in northern Utah, forging and maintaining relationships with notable community organizations, businesses and leaders. In addition, I manage all social media for Best Friends Animal Society's Utah programs and the NKUT (No-kill Utah) initiative. This includes posting multiple times daily and responding quickly to followers on multiple high-volume accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Yelp and LinkedIn.I was promoted after just a few months to Communications Manager, retaining most of these duties and adding more.

I practice low-impact conservation wildlife, landscape and travel photography, producing archival quality images for the fine art collector market. I travel extensively, and my favorite subjects are the breathtaking landscapes and incredible wildlife in our national parks, along with the unexpected things we see when visiting somewhere new. • I managed production, content strategy and growth of all non-print news products for state’s largest news organization. This includes the multi-award-winning www.sltrib.com with an average of 25 million page views per month.• I posted and scheduled all social media accounts, managed content and updates for mobile sites and apps and e-reader editions. I oversaw reader engagement and feedback, multimedia and video production, vendor contracts and relationships, internal and external marketing and online personnel management and scheduling for a 24/7 operation.• I analyzed analytics, creating and managing strategy based on real-time statistics and spotting traffic and audience behavioral trends within Adobe Omniture and Google Analytics. I created and presented regular reports and drilled-down analysis to newsroom editors and journalists at all levels, helping them to understand strengths and areas in need of improvement. • I held regular training sessions for staff at all levels, teaching basics and more advanced strategies for social media and SEO.

I managed, often personally updating and scheduling all official social media profiles for The Tribune, engaging with tens of thousands of followers on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, instagram, YouTube and others. Our goal is transparency and trust, building and furthering relationships with readers while upholding our reputation for solid, thorough and fast news reporting.

• I created and curated social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, instagram and Google+. I updated and scheduled posts, choosing targeted content for each from 150-200 items generated each day in our newsroom. I also watched for and responded to mentions, tags and feedback. I managed and monitored story comments.• I actively managed content selection and placement on the sltrib.com home page and major section fronts, utilizing news judgment and real-time analytics analysis to obtain the largest possible audience.• I produced stories, video and multimedia content from start to finish, including reporting, shooting, editing and final production.• I appeared multiple times each week live on KUTV2’s top-rated morning newscast, discussing content from that day’s print edition. For each, I wrote a 2-minute script summarizing 2-4 stories and responded to follow-up questions with authority.

• I was on the development team that built and launched sltrib.com, one of the first ten newspaper sites in the world.• I actively managed content selection and placement of content, edited images, built and managed a message board/comment and feedback system for readers.• I created and updated the first blog for The Salt Lake Tribune, writing about technology trends and behind-the-scenes of our website team and newsroom.

I reported and wrote features stories, film and theater reviews and a weekly technology column. I coordinated calendar production and film listings for the features department and staff.

I was on the opening team of Utah's first Apple Store. I worked part time, advising costumers on computer systems and digital music players, selling and training them on Apple products. I loved the people, the company and the job, but gave it up to pursue added responsibilities at The Tribune.
