In a nutshell: building useful things with software.I had an old-school (C++-based) Computer Science education. After graduation I got a job as an Oracle DBA, which is an interesting profession - where Oracle is used there is usually enterprise-critical information at play, and precision is required in the daily work. One quickly develops a deep expertise in all matters Oracle database; while some business knowledge is required, it's mostly about keeping the data safe and getting quick access to it when needed.At Liip, I spent some years developing custom PHP applications. I also spent quite a bit of time creating a stable Moodle (a learning management system) hosting environment for dozens of clients and writing custom Moodle plugins.Then there was a phase of custom development using Django, Django Rest Framework, and PostgreSQL in the context of a large project which manages input from heterogeneous input systems, making aggregated data available via a REST API. The project allows point-in-time queries of relational data.Currently at Liip I'm a mobile developer with a focus on iOS development, but I still work on backend projects in Python from time to time.I like the work that I do to be pleasant to use for the user; my philosophy is that the application should get out of the way and let the user do what they want to.
